You know, I really never was "Born to Run" so I'm not exactly sure why I enjoy it so much...??
This year I am planning to complete The Great Cumbrian Run on Sunday 2nd October 2011 in aid of Diabetes UK.
Diabetes UK is the charity for people with diabetes, their family, friends and carers. Their mission is to improve the lives of people with the condition and work towards a future without diabetes. My Grandma, Ethel Murphy, is diabetic and I want to do something for a cause that has supported her, and that she has also actively supported, for the last 20 or so years.
My challenge target of 621 does not look very obvious, but it is the mile equivalent of 1,000km - a personal mileage target I set myself for the whole of the year 2011. Less the £162.92 Pampered Chef cheque (see pic).
My mileage will include a few local races, together with all the training. I have now completed:
* Muckletoon Doctors' Run (8 miles) 8th May (1:20:30);
* Borrowdale Trail Run (11km) on 22nd May (1:24:10);
* Grasmere Gallop (10km) on 12th June (1:07:09);
* Derwentwater Trail (14km) - 3rd Sept (1:48:19);
* Cumbrian Run (Half Mara) - 2nd Oct (2:27:24);
* Brampton to Carlisle (10 miles) - 19th Nov (1:33:15); and
*Christmas Pudding 10km - 10th Dec (1:02:37).
Thank you to all who can possibly help. And thank you to all of you who just read my notes and visit my Diabetes Challenge page, as this alone will raise awareness of diabetes.
Hopefully my 621 miles is realistic and achievable - I'll keep you all posted, and hopefully you generous lot will match it in ££s.
But 'til then... (come on, join in) tramps like us... BABY WE WERE BORN TO RUN!!
