This incredible challenge will see teams of six swimmers take part in a relay race across the English Channel from Dover to Cap Gris Nez in France.
This is a tough challenge but really will be a once in a lifetime experience.
As you may or may not know my son Jack has Type 1 Diabetes and was diagnosed at the age of 6, so you can probably guess that I am doing this Channel Swim Relay Race 2010 and hoping at the same time to raise funds for Diabetes UK. With any luck any money raised will go towards finding a cure for this condition. It would be nice to think that one day in the future that multiple daily injection, insulin pumps and blood sugar testing could be a thing of the past. Jack currently does at least 4-5 injections today which sometimes can be very frustrating for him and the family but we stick together and get through it. I for one hope that its not too long in coming. Diabetes is not a fun thing to have and can have many subsequent complications, such as heart disease, neuropathy (this can lead to amputations), retinopathy (which can result in blindness). Diabetes UK is passionate about raising money to fund research in to finding a cure for diabetes and in the meantime controlling the condition more effectively. They also help with people get to grips with diabetes that are either newly diagnosed or have had diabetes for a while. I hope you will be as generous as you can be to help fund this research and care for this growing condition.
