The Chester Marathon, 31st May 2010.
Done!
THANKYOU so much for the sponsorship and support!
The run itself went horribly wrong. I wasn't at all right on the day and realised I was struggling very early on, despite going at a slower pace in the early stages than originally planned. By half way I knew I had a disaster waiting for me. By 16 miles the disaster struck.
The last 10 miles was just about the hardest & nastiest experience of my life and I can honestly say that I would have given up long before the end had it not been for the sponsorship and the support of family on the route.
04:50 ... Very disapointing after 6 months of training and almost 700 miles on the roads but I think that's the nature of the beast ... when it goes wrong at a marathon, it goes VERY wrong. I will make use of all those the miles in my legs to set some fast times at 5K-HM over the summer, so it won't go to waste.
Of course, I will now have to do 26.2 again ... only properly this time.
Thanks again!
UPDATE: I had a heart operation 2 weeks after the marathon to cure my SVT ... I then ran over 2,500 miles before returning to the 2nd Chester marathon ... I managed 03:32 this time.
