Detox Diet

A detox diet is designed to purge your system of toxins. It involves fasting (not eating) for anything from 1-3 days, and then gradually adding in water and low-toxin food groups to your diet, bringing you into a new diet regime.

There are many different variations of detox diets to choose from, so you are sure to find one that suits your food tastes. Most recommend that you only consume water after the fast period so as to flush out the toxins before you begin eating again. The fast itself takes will-power and you'll need to adopt a low-energy lifestyle as otherwise those hunger pangs will simply overrun you.

Once you are through the fast and liquid phase of the diet, the low-toxin food stage begins. Typical low-toxin food types you'll be able to eat include fruit, steamed vegetables and brown rice. Some detox diets suggest that you eat all of these in the next stage, whilst others advocate a monotrophic diet, so just eating one type of fruit or vegetable at each mealtime.

Red meat, sugar, eggs and wheat-based products such as pasta are all definitely out. It is also recommended that you have a colonic irrigation to be sure that you are totally detoxed.
