Atkins Diet

Developed by the late Robert C. Atkins, the Atkins Diet is a low-carbohydrate diet that is high in protein and high in fat. The premise of the diet is that overweight people have a metabolic disorder not an eating disorder. By following the diet plan a dieter's metabolic rate becomes elevated, so configuring the body to burn more fat than is being consumed.

The Atkins Diet has become popular since the publication of the Atkins Diet book called New Diet Revolution, in which everything about the Atkins Diet is explained. It is also very popular when compared to other dieting regimes as the Atkins Diet takes a completely different stance. Intake of gourmet foods and foods traditionally labelled as 'fattening' are encouraged by the Atkins Diet - heaven on a stick for most people who want to lose weight! Additionally, by following the Atkins Diet dieters no longer have to count calories, or even semi-starve themselves, as if they do the diet won't work!

Typical meals for dieters following Atkins include scrambled egg with streaky bacon, ham or sugarless sausages for breakfast, a cheeseburger or bacon cheeseburger for lunch (without the bun), and roast chicken, turkey or duck in natural gravy for diner.
