Opticians

For many of us 20/20 vision is integral to the quality of life that we lead. Without regular eye examinations at an opticians though, our eyesight could deteriorate to the point that it begins to seriously affect our ability to do the most basic of tasks. In some instances this can happen very quickly without us even noticing that anything is wrong!

Performing close-up work where our eyes are focused in the near distance or working at a computer screen every day can open the door to a rapid decline in our quality of vision. Difficulties switching focus from the short distance to long distance is a sure sign that something is wrong, as are severe headaches resulting from eyestrain.

At an opticians a qualified optometrist will examine your eyes. Besides determining if you need to have glasses or contact lenses, the optometrist will also check how healthy your eyes are. Eye disorders such as macular degeneration - a condition where changes in the macula lutea leads to blindness - can be diagnosed, and treatment administered.

If optical correction is necessary to help restore your 20/20 vision the optometrist will draw up a lenses prescription. This enables you to buy the right type of spectacles or contact lenses to 'correct' your eyesight.
