Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure designed to flatten the abdomen and re-shape the waistline, giving a slimmer more toned appearance from the waist to the lower chest area. Also known as abdominoplasty, tummy tuck surgery involves removal of excess fat and skin from the lower, mid and upper abdomen area. The procedure can take up to 5 hours to complete, during which time the patient will be under a general anaesthetic.

The surgeon will start the tummy tuck procedure by making a broad U-shaped incision across the waist, from hip to hip. The skin is then lifted and separated from the underlying tissue and muscle. Liposuction is used to remove the excess fat, and the surgeon will draw-in abdominal wall tissue and muscle to create a shapelier waistline.

Large scale bruising and swelling of the abdomen is to be expected after surgery, but this will rapidly subside within a few days. Strenuous activity should be avoided for a further 2 - 4 weeks.

To preserve your new abdominal profile it is highly recommended that you exercise regularly and eat a balanced diet. An unhealthy lifestyle will only encourage fat to build up again around your waistline.
