Skin Peel

Skin peels are the fastest growing non-surgical cosmetic procedure – and are increasingly popular in the UK. They keep your face fresh and youthful, helping to improve skin tone and texture and, in some cases, reduce visible wrinkles. Skin peels can also be an effective treatment for medical conditions such as acne and hyperpigmentation.

The decision to have aesthetic cosmetic treatments is a very personal one and it is vital that you get good advice – tailored to your individual circumstances – so that you can make a well-informed decision.

You've probably read in the health and beauty press about Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA), or 'fruit acids' as they are sometimes called. These agents can have a dramatic effect on lines, wrinkles and blemishes - the kind of damage caused by that old combination of too much sun and too much moisture.

Science does not have the final answer on how AHAs work. What we do know is that they gently remove the top layer of dead, dry cells to smooth and refine the skin - the so called skin peel effect. There's also evidence that AHAs act more deeply to build up the skin and help restore elasticity.

The preparations they use contain an AHA called glycolic acid in concentrations that you will not find in any - over the counter - cosmetic. And it's cleverly formulated to keep the pH close to that of your skin, so minimising the likelihood of irritation. This is called formulation glycolic compound.

A range of different formulations is available, depending on your particular skin type. Our specialist doctors and nurses who are trained in non-surgical procedures will be able to recommend the right one for you and treatment, consisting of a course of topically applied peels, typically takes between 30 minutes and an hour per session.

Typically a programme will begin with a consultation to assess your needs and to set objectives. Then you will return to the clinic for a series of skin peel procedures performed by the specialist nurse. At the same time you will be recommended products to use at home. Each treatment takes about a half hour. Four treatments performed at two week intervals would be usual. The concentration of formula used is increased from one treatment to the next gradually improving the condition of your skin.
